Altar Servers

The altar server is a part of a very ancient tradition in the liturgical life of the church. The server is a member of the assembly who assists the priest and deacon during the sacramental ceremonies so that the liturgy can be conducted with grace and reverence.

As a member of the assembly, the server should always model how to be a full and active participant in the Liturgical celebration.

A server has many ritual actions to perform, but what a reward he/she will feel in their heart as they are able to serve God and the community as well. This ministry provides an excellent opportunity for children third grade and older to participate as leaders, in a very special way during mass.

As with other ministries, the ministry of server requires individuals to be trained so they can conduct themselves appropriately. For those interested in becoming an altar server, please complete the Altar Server Information Sheet and Permission Form and submit it to the parish office (St. Benedict Catholic Church, 16223 S. 48th St., Phoenix, AZ 85048).
