The readings of today bring us to one of the most beautiful truths of the Christian faith: God’s mercy is wider than our boundaries, and genuine faith is often found in unexpected places. Isaiah speaks of foreigners being welcomed into God’s house; St. Paul reminds us that God’s gifts and calling are irrevocable; and Jesus encounters a Canaanite woman whose persistent faith becomes an example for the Church.

The readings of today speak about one reality every Christian experiences, which is storms. Elijah faces a storm of discouragement; St. Paul experiences the storm of sorrow for his people; Peter encounters a physical storm on the Sea of Galilee.

The readings of this Sunday reveal a profound truth about nature and grace: every living creature hungers. Birds search for food at dawn, rivers flow endlessly toward the sea, and roots stretch deep into the earth in search of water. Yet, despite all these natural instincts, only the human person hungers not only with the body but also with the soul.
