Changes in Leadership

05-03-2021Weekly Flocknote MessageFr. James Aboyi, V.C.

On behalf of the parish and St. John Bosco communities, I would like to congratulate Jamie Bescak for being selected as the new Principal of our St. John Bosco school. Ms. Bescak is well known to everyone in our school community and also well involved in our St. Benedict parish community. She previously wore many hats as our Preschool Director, Coordinator of Marketing and Promotion, Facility Manager and classroom teacher. Ms. Bescak has been a very passionate, positive and visible face of our school for the past six years. Her first day as Principal is July 1, 2021.

Congratulations, also, to Jennifer Vanderzyl for accepting the position as our new Preschool Director. Ms. Vanderzyl is also well known to everyone in our school community as a parent and fifth grade teacher. Going forward, in addition to classroom teaching, Ms. Vanderzyl will be wearing many hats as Preschool Director and Coordinator of the Accreditation Committee and ESP Program.

I look forward to serving with this wonderful leadership team of Ms. Bescak and Ms. Vanderzyl in the next academic year.

We typically have changes of leadership at this time of the year as we approach the end of the academic and fiscal years. On behalf of our SJB community, I would like to congratulate Brian Wiscombe for being elected as the new President of the School Advisory Board (SAB) during our board meeting last week. My congratulations also to Marianne Biegler for being elected as the Vice President of the SAB Board. Still more congratulations to Molly Goins, Cynthia Casaus and Judea Oyer for being elected as new SAB members. I look forward to serving with the Board and new leadership team in the next academic year.

From the parish side, I would like to congratulate Mr. David Portillo for accepting my invitation to serve as a member of the Parish Pastoral Council. David is well known in our parish community for his active role as member of the Knights of Columbus and Lector. He will be joining the Council at our next meeting on Wednesday of next week.

On a sad note, I am sorry to announce the retirement of Sr. Colleen. Sister informed me that she will be retiring by the end of June this year. I thank Sister for her wonderful leadership as Director of Faith Formation and Coordinator of RCIA, Women’s Spirituality, Prayer Chain, Baptism Preparation and for her involvement in Liturgy and the community. We will miss her so much in our parish community, but I take consolation in knowing that she is going into her well-deserved retirement. I am also glad to know that Sister will still continue to serve our parish community as a volunteer in some ministries.

I also announce to you that David Rees, our Coordinator of Youth Ministry, has accepted a teaching position at Seton Catholic High School. I thank David for his excellent leadership in the youth ministry over the past eight years. David will be leaving us in the month of July.

I thank David and Sister for their willingness to help us with the transition process when we come to that time. I wish them God’s abundant blessings as they move on to do some other exciting things in their lives.

Have a wonderful weekend and remain blessed.

Fr James Aboyi, VC
Pastor
