Catechetical Sunday

09-18-2020Weekly Flocknote MessageFr. James Aboyi, V.C.

This weekend we celebrate Catechetical Sunday, the day each year when all Catechists are commissioned and sent forth by our parish community to lead others closer to Christ. This year's theme, “I Received from the Lord what I also Handed on to You,” focuses on the important and beautiful work of those who help pass on the faith and are witnesses to the Gospel. The theme emphasizes that our faith is a lived faith, inspiring all to be witnesses of the true and living God. Since Catechists are often the instruments through which many come to encounter Christ, they have a unique role of keeping people connected to the life of the parish.

As we celebrate each Catechist's gift of faith, let us lift them up in prayer. We are grateful for their time and dedication as they answer the call to lead and serve our St. Benedict community this year in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, Journey of Faith, JAM, EPIC, RCIA, Baptism preparation, and Children's Liturgy of the Word: Stephanie Herring, Vicki Schmitz, Marie Zawtocki, Elsa Aguayo, Mary Gardner, Eileen Curtain, Kate Ferrantelli, Charity Hollywood, Deb Litgen, Margie Gomez, Cynthia Padilla, Cecilia Trevizo, Russ Spencer, Nora Phillips, Marilyn Nemecek, Rosemary Dolmage, Robin Madrigal, Tracy Randolph, Deacon Ed, Linda Winkelbauer, Dewayne Byrnes, James Chavez. Audra Sein, Kate Cuprak, Michael Rodriguez, Sean Rodriguez, Nazario Prieto, Erica Rathje, Francesca Galvan, John Bell, Abbey Lammers, Natalie Petersen and Stephanie Sommers-Stout.

New Marquee Sign for SJB

Congratulations to our St. John Bosco School community for the new marquee sign. The project was sponsored by the SJB Dad’s Club. I thank them for this wonderful initiative and for their relentless support of the school community. The beautiful marquee is now up and running, and will help strengthen our communication with the community.

Faithful Citizenship

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is pleased to once again offer Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship. This document uses Catholic Church teachings to guide and inform the consciences of Catholics as we exercise our rights and duties as participants in democracy. Pastors, lay and religious faithful, and all people of good will are urged to use this statement to help form their consciences; to teach those entrusted to their care; to contribute to civil and respectful public dialogue; and to shape political choices in the coming election in light of Catholic teaching.
