First Week of Advent

12-02-2018Weekly ReflectionFr. James Aboyi

Dear Parishioners,

Welcome to the Season of Advent! This first Sunday of Advent marks the beginning of the newLiturgical Year “C.” I believe the season of Advent is the most beautiful and joyful me of theyear in nearly every part of the world. The word “Advent” comes from the Latin word “adventus”meaning “coming or period of anticipation.” As we all know, Advent is a period of preparation forboth the birth of Jesus Christ and also for His second coming here on Earth. You probably noticeda few new things in the church today, namely the purple Altar cloth and vestments, the Adventwreath, and the Christmas decorations, all in anticipation and preparation for the birth of Jesus Christ on Christmas Day.

This weekend you will hear an update on our New Church Building Project. I want to thank you foryour patience as we needed me to assemble all of the reports. During all Masses this weekend, you will hear how we are doing as far as reaching our goal, and our projections of the timeline forthe actual construction of the new church building. I thank the Building, Campaign and FinanceCommittees for working so tirelessly behind the scenes to put all the reports and financial analysistogether. Future updates will be timely and readily available on our website and in the parishbulletin.

I would like to remind everyone that our Parish Advent Penance Service is this Wednesday,December 5, at 7:00pm here in the church. We are expecting a number of priests from around thearea to come for the service. The evening will begin with communal penance, after which we willhave individual confessions. Please plan to attend as this is a wonderful opportunity for everyoneto go to confession with a priest of their choosing. Remember to invite your family members and friends to come and join us as well.
