Liturgical Ministries Liturgical Ministries Music Ministers encourage "full, active, conscious participation" in the liturgy. Our pastoral musicians help to prepare for the prayerful song we experience at St. Benedict Parish. We are always eager to welcome new members! There are several ways to share your special talents! Contact Mary Viktor at the parish office, or at liturgy@stbenedict.org. MINISTERS OF MUSIC (PASTORAL MUSICIANS) Choir: These pastoral musicians work hard each week to prepare for Sunday Mass. We give plenty of experience! Rehearsals are held each Thursday, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. No audition is required, All singers and instrumentalists are most welcome. Seasonal Pastoral Musicians: Some of our pastoral musicians are unable to make a long-term commitment to the music ministry. These seasonal members enhance our liturgical song at various times throughout the church year. Youth Choir: Our parish young people can participate as Music Ministers about once a month during the school year. Two choirs for children in grades 3 - 5 and grades 6 - 8 are welcome. Weekly rehearsals . Small Contemporary Ensembles: The music at some of our Masses is lead by small ensembles of pastoral musicians. We welcome any skills you offer. Instrumentalist: Our parish has a constant need for all instrumental musicians. Keyboard, percussion, guitar, winds, brass, strings, all are welcome. We work with many levels of experience. ALTAR SERVER MINISTRY Altar servers assist the Presider and Deacon during Mass. All boys and girls, Grade 4 and above, and adults are invited to join this sacred ministry. Experience is not necessary; servers only need the desire to learn. Training provided. ART & ENVIRONMENT MINISTRY Your time is our most valuable asset! Art and Environment involves creating a prayerful environment in the church, sewing vestments, banners, and specialty items to enhance our liturgical space. If you can sew, draw, or have any type of artistic talent, you are most welcome to join us! EUCHARISTIC BREAD COMMITTEE Our Eucharistic bread should be real unleavened bread when at all possible. This ministry is ideal for those with time at home to bake bread for our Sunday liturgies on a rotating basis. The easy to make recipe will be provided here by clicking on this link. BREAD Children's Liturgy of the Word Each Sunday morning, we have a special program with the Liturgy of the Word from that Mass for young children ages 4 through 7. Children are dismissed together and go with their catechists to listen to the readings from the Children's Lectionary. This is followed by an activity that reinforces the message of the week. Special Ministers of the Eucharistic (EM's) The Special Eucharistic Minister is commissioned by the Bishop to feed the community of St. Benedict with the Body and Blood of Christ at Sunday, Holy Day and daily Masses. This ministry is open to all fully participating Catholics who have a deep love for the Eucharist. Training is required for diocesan certification every three years. In addition, attendance is required at an annual meeting. Ministers of the Word (Lectors) The Minister of the Word is a public proclaimer of Scripture. "In the readings, God speaks to his people of the mystery of salvation and nourishes their spirit; Christ is present in his word since it is he himself who speaks when the Holy Scriptures are proclaimed." Therefore, proclaiming the Word in the assembly gives God's love a voice. It makes the risen Christ present. If you are interested in being a lector, the following prerequisites are recommended:
Training to hone your skills will be provided. Diocesan certification and attendance at an annual meeting is required. Ministers of Hospitality (Ushers & Greeters) We look for men and women, families and singles, physically challenged, old and young alike to help in welcoming our community as it assembles in prayer. This ministry is VITAL to the spirit of our liturgical celebrations. We also need USHERS, whose duties include: helping people find seating, taking up the collection, and assisting in the flow of our communion procession.
